Samgyetang

Chicken ginseng soup with herbs at supposedly the best place to get it in all of Seoul (they have an illustration of former President Roh with the Chairman of Samsung having lunch at the restaurant as reported in the Korea Times several years ago). Amazing stuff.

Kid’s Cafe

This term is used to describe a place that both serves light fare for kids and provides children’s activities in the way of arts/crafts and/or kids play areas. We visited one that specialized in trampolines over the weekend. This picture was taken before a bus load of kids arrived and I’m sorry I can’t post a video because he was singing to “Let It Go” from the Frozen soundtrack at the top of his lungs while running and bouncing!

Korean McDonald’s

On Sunday morning, LE woke up asking “Is there Korean waffles or pancakes?” It was the right moment to introduce a Mickey D’s breakfast, the only place to get “hotcakes” at 7am. I will be reporting back on their bulgogi burger and various local offerings. The FIFA fever has infused the menu with Latin flavors. More on this later.

This Ain’t No M*A*S*H

We visited a seasonal theme park inspired by beloved Korean cartoon series, Poli (short for police). The park was appropriately situated at the Korean War Memorial which is located across from the Yongsan AFB. Don’t think for a minute I didn’t know what was really going on. You can’t expect me to believe that this children’s obstacle course was for sheer entertainment. Playing underneath relics of the Korean War, this was mental and physical preparation for another Korean War.
